Skoda Auto VW India, JSW Group sign MoU to explore strategic partnership

Reports coming in for today mention that Skoda Auto Volkswagen India and JSW Group have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a strategic partnership in India, with the proposed cooperation aimed at expanding product offerings, deepening localisation and strengthening manufacturing and R&D capabilities.

The scheduled cooperation aims to strengthen competitiveness through expanded product offerings, deeper localization, and enhanced manufacturing and R&D capabilities, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India stated.

"It is based on a two party partnership structure with joint control, clearly defined roles, and mechanisms designed to backing swift and effective decision making. Deep localisation and platform synergies are intended to backing competitive product offerings, increased scale, and improved profitability in the Indian market," the firm stated.

The development comes as India assumes greater strategic importance for the Volkswagen Group, with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India noting that the country is "rapidly becoming a firm pillar outside Europe" and a strategic hub to unlock potential in neighbouring regions and adjacent markets.

"In 2025, the Group – Skoda Auto Volkswagen India recorded a nearly 36 per cent year-over-year domestic volume expansion, while brand Skoda doubled its sales in India with the strongest year-on-year upside across all Skoda markets," the firm stated.

The automaker stated it is continuing to evaluate new business opportunities to fully explore India's expansion potential.
