IMD alert: Deep depression near Vizag to bring heavy rains, gusty winds and thunderstorms in Andhra

New business data points to the fact that The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday stated the deep depression over west-central and adjoining Bay of Bengal moved westwards and lay centred over the same region, around 150 km off Vizag, bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The Met Department forecast light thunderstorms and light rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in parts of Coastal Andhra and one or two places in Kurnool and Nandyal districts.

β€œThe deep depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal moved westwards with a speed of 12 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred at 5:30 am today over the same region,” stated the Met Department in an official press release.

By Wednesday morning, the weather system lay 150 km east – northeast of Visakhapatnam.

It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross North Andhra Pradesh – South Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur, close to Kalingapatnam as a deep depression by Wednesday night, stated the Met Department.

In the meantime, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director Prakhar Jain stated widespread rains are anticipated under the influence of the deep depression on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Jain, heavy rains are anticipated in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari and Eluru districts.

Likewise, he stated moderate rainfall is anticipated in Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla and Palnadu districts, along with light to moderate showers in Rayalaseema districts.

He advised people in low lying areas to be wary of sudden floods and directed fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea for fishing.
