GST collections stay above Rs 2 lakh crore for third straight month, growth picks up to 14.7%

Fresh updates from the financial markets indicate that India's gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections remained above the Rs 2 lakh crore mark for the third consecutive month in September, rising 14.7 percent year-on-year to Rs 2.04 lakh crore, indicating continued resilience in tax revenues.

The pace of expansion picked up marginally from 14.3 percent in August, though it remained below the 15.4 percent recorded in July. GST collections had stood at Rs 1.77 lakh crore in September 2025.

Collections have now remained above Rs 2 lakh crore since July, when revenues stood at Rs 2.11 lakh crore, followed by Rs 2.00 lakh crore in August and Rs 2.04 lakh crore in September.

The September gain was supported by a sharp climb in collections from imports. Gross GST topline from imports increased 25.9 percent year-on-year to Rs 65,525 crore from Rs 52,031 crore a year ago. Domestic GST topline, in the meantime, rose 10.1 percent to Rs 1.38 lakh crore from Rs 1.25 lakh crore. Net collections climb 18%

Net GST topline grew at an even faster pace as refunds declined during the month.

Total net GST topline increased 18.1 percent to Rs 1.77 lakh crore from Rs 1.50 lakh crore in September last year.

Net domestic GST topline rose 13.5 percent to Rs 1.24 lakh crore, while net customs GST topline jumped 30.8 percent to Rs 52,028 crore.

First-half collections up 11.6%

Gross GST collections during April-September 2026 stood at Rs 12.46 lakh crore, up 11.6 percent from Rs 11.17 lakh crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Domestic gross revenues increased 6.1 percent during the first six months of FY27 to Rs 8.74 lakh crore, while import revenues advanced 27.1 percent to Rs 3.72 lakh crore.

Net GST topline during April-September increased 10.4 percent to Rs 10.66 lakh crore. Refunds during the period, that stated, were 18.8 percent elevated at Rs 1.80 lakh crore.
