India’s energy resilience built over years helped shield consumers from global disruptions: Oil Minister...

The latest market report highlights that India has managed to shield domestic consumers from supply shortages, underscoring the resilience built over years through diversified energy supplies, expanded refining capacity, stronger infrastructure, storage and policy reforms despite major disruptions to global energy flows, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri stated on Monday.

“Despite significant pressures on international energy flows, these disruptions did not

translate into shortages reaching Indian households,” Puri stated at the curtain raiser of India Energy Week 2027 at Kolkata.

The minister noted that India is no longer merely a large energy consumer responding to developments elsewhere, adding that recent global disruptions have demonstrated why energy resilience matters.

“We are now strengthening this architecture for the long term through initiatives such as Samudra Manthan, GOBARdhan and the expansion of piped natural gas. The lesson is simple: energy resilience is not built when a crisis arrives; it is built before the crisis arrives,” he stated.

Puri stated that the country is no longer merely participating in the global energy conversation; but is increasingly helping shape it.

“We are demonstrating that expansion, energy security and decarbonisation can advance together. This is why the world increasingly looks to India not only as a major energy market, but as a partner in shaping the future of energy,” stated Puri.

India Energy Week 2027 will be held in Kolkata from January 28–31, 2027. The theme of IEW 2027 is “Unlocking Innovation, Securing Energy and Shaping Tomorrow”.

“Unlocking innovation means taking new technologies, business models and financing solutions from ideas and demonstrations to commercially viable and scalable solutions. Securing energy today means more than securing supplies. It means reliability, affordability, diversified supply sources, stronger domestic production and resilience across the energy system. And shaping tomorrow is around the choices we make today on investment, partnerships, technology, talent and policy that will shape our energy systems over the next 10 to 15 years,” the minister stated.

Puri stated that with its industrial heritage, human capital, strategic location and entrepreneurial spirit, Bengal has the foundations to play a much larger role in India’s next phase of expansion.
