Central government employees, pensioners to get September salary, pension on September 25 amid bank strike

The latest market report highlights that The Ministry of Finance has announced an advance disbursement of September 2026 salaries, wages, and pensions for Central Government employees on September 25, in view of the 3-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to September 30.
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) under the Ministry of Finance on September 23, the decision was taken based on information from the Department of Financial Services regarding the proposed bank strike and the likelihood of disruptions to banking transactions during that period.
The memorandum stated the salary and wages of all Central Government employees, including those working in Defence, Posts and Telecommunications, may be drawn and disbursed on September 25, 2026 (Friday). The wages for September of industrial employees may additionally be released in advance on the same date.
Similarly, the September 2026 pension of Central Government pensioners may be disbursed by banks and Pay and Accounts Offices (PAOs) on September 25.
The CGA clarified that the salary, wages and pension paid in advance will be treated as advance payments. Any adjustment required after the full month's salary, wages, or pension is determined will be made, without exception, from the salary or wages for October 2026.
Bank strike coincides with quarter-end closure
The advance payment decision comes as the proposed bank strike falls at the end of the month. The CGA memorandum additionally noted that the strike period coincides with the closing days of the current quarter.
To avoid delays and disruptions, ministries and departments have been advised that payments and other banking transactions scheduled towards the end of September 2026 may additionally be processed in advance, wherever feasible.
The Reserve Bank of India has additionally been requested to communicate the instructions to the paying branches of banks, the memorandum stated.
"In view of the bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30, the Finance Ministry issued orders for the payment of pensions and salaries as early as September 25. Banks are sending daily notifications stating that transactions may stay suspended for three days and that internet banking services are additionally likely to be affected," Manjeet Singh Patel, President of the All India NPS Employees Federation (AINEF), stated.
