NSDL appoints Ankit Sharma as Executive Director for regulatory, compliance vertical

The latest market report highlights that The National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) has appointed Ankit Sharma as Executive Director – Vertical 2, overseeing regulatory, compliance, risk management and investor grievances, effective September 21.
According to a filing with the BSE, Sharma has joined NSDL’s Governing Board for a five-year term. His appointment follows approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), along with approvals from NSDL’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee and Governing Board.
Sharma joins NSDL after serving as Chief Regulatory Officer – Stock-exchange debut & Investor Compliance at the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). He has more than 30 years of experience across regulatory and capital markets institutions, including the Reserve Bank of India, SEBI, global investment banks, Indian securities institutions and market infrastructure institutions.
At NSE, Sharma was responsible for regulatory functions related to listings, including IPO approvals and compliance with SEBI’s Offering of Capital and Disclosure Requirements (ICDR) and Stock-exchange debut Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) regulations.
His responsibilities additionally included investor protection and grievance redressal, including the SCORES platform, monitoring misconduct by listed entities and implementing SEBI investor-awareness initiatives.
Before joining NSE, Sharma served as Head – Compliance & Legal at ICICI Securities from 2021 to 2023. In that role, he handled regulatory compliance and legal governance across broking, merchant banking, portfolio management services, investment advisory and distribution businesses.
His remit included regulatory reporting, investor grievance redressal, litigation management, internal audits, ethics and conduct oversight, as well as engagement with SEBI, bourses, depositories, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Ministry of Finance.
Sharma holds an MBA from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Maharaja’s College, Jaipur. NSDL stated there are no relationships between Sharma and its other directors.
