Stock market holiday 2026: Are NSE, BSE shut today for Ganesh Chaturthi? Here’s what GIFT Nifty indicates

As per the latest business developments, The equity markets in India will stay closed on Monday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi, resulting in a shortened trading week.
Trading on the domestic exchanges will resume on Tuesday, September 15, followed by the regular weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday.
The next market holiday will be observed in October on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, followed by Dussehra.
November 8 will additionally be a trading holiday on account of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. That stated, the day falls on a Sunday. Muhurat Trading will be conducted on the occasion, with timings to be announced later through a circular by the exchanges.

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will stay closed for the morning session from 9 am to 5 pm on Thursday. Trading will resume in the evening session from 5 pm to 11:30 pm/11:55 pm.
In the meantime, GIFT Nifty traded largely flat even as Asian equities and US stock futures declined, with a fresh surge in oil price marks and growing expectations of a US Fed interest-rate gain weighing on global risk appetite.
GIFT Nifty was at 23,467, up 11.5 points, or 0.05 percent. Indian equities had recovered sharply from their intraday lows on Friday but still finished marginally softer. The Sensex declined 120.83 points, or 0.16 percent, to 74,781.76, while the Nifty declined 79.70 points, or 0.34 percent, to 23,398.10.
