Expenzing launches FinCat AI suite for accounts payable, employee expense automation

Fresh updates from the financial markets indicate that Mumbai-based spend management software provider Expenzing has introduced a suite of artificial intelligence tools aimed at automating routine spend management tasks such as invoice authorisation, expense approval and financial reporting.

The firm, which describes itself as being built specifically for the Indian market, stated the new suite, called FinCat, is intended to reduce the time finance teams spend on tasks such as reading invoices, checking tax details, matching purchase orders and following up on approvals.

Firm executives stated the product differs from more general-purpose AI tools because it has been built around specific spend management, fraud control, and compliance processes rather than broad automation. The system is designed to work alongside existing ERPs, accounting software and approval processes rather than replace them.

The suite is built around three main functions.

The first automates supplier invoice processing. Using AI based image-recognition technology, the software reads invoices in various formats, including scanned documents and converts them into structured data.

A separate checking tool then runs automated reviews covering supplier compliance, calculation accuracy and unusual billing patterns. It assigns each invoice a confidence rating before determining whether it can be processed automatically or should be sent to a staff member for manual review.

The second function targets employee expense claims. Straightforward claims are approved and processed without staff involvement, while a monitoring tool scans receipts for signs of manipulation, such as altered figures or fabricated documents, and sends such claims to an assigned team member for further checking.

The third element is a query tool that allows finance managers to ask questions around outstanding payments or budget issues in plain language and receive answers based on current transaction records, without having to run notes through specialist software or rely on IT staff.

Ila Imani, chief executive of Expenzing, stated the aim of this solution was to give finance teams greater assurance around compliance and fraud detection while allowing staff to spend less time on routine checking work.

She described the tool as being designed to strengthen existing finance operations rather than replace firm systems or processes already in place.
