Graphite India stock soars 18%, HEG hits upper circuit; GrafTech’s 30% price hike sparks electrode rally

Graphite India stock jumped 17.8 percent to Rs 865 in morning trade, emerging as the top gainer on the BSE Smallcap index and ranking among the most actively traded stocks on both the NSE and BSE. The stock has now advanced around 32 percent in 2026, sharply outperforming the Nifty 50, which is down around 10 percent over the same period. The firm’s market capitalisation stood at around Rs 16,700 crore.
HEG Advanced Materials shares additionally rallied, rising 4.99 percent to hit the upper circuit at Rs 271.5. The firm commanded a market capitalisation of around Rs 5,233 crore. The upside came against a weak broader market. At 10:15 am, the Sensex was down 606 points, or 0.80 percent, at 74,971, while the Nifty 50 declined 149.5 points, or 0.63 percent, to 23,485.60.
The trigger came from GrafTech International, whose shares surged around 15 percent on Wall Street overnight after the global graphite electrode producer announced a minimum 30 percent gain in graphite electrode prices.

The price gain is effective immediately for all open commercial negotiations and follows an earlier pricing action announced in March. GrafTech stated graphite electrode prices have declined considerably during the past three years even as some raw-material, energy and logistics costs have increased, prompting the firm to seek a return to more sustainable pricing marks.
The development is being viewed as a positive read-through for Indian graphite electrode manufacturers. According to a CNBC-TV18 report, GrafTech's move could potentially translate into an gain of around $1,500 per tonne in Indian graphite electrode realisations. If sustained, elevated realisations could backing profitability and margins for domestic producers.
GrafTech's pricing action additionally follows its recent announcement of a 51,000-tonne reduction in capacity, strengthening expectations of tighter supply conditions in the global graphite electrode market.
Graphite India is at present the only listed pure-play exposure to the graphite electrode business in India. HEG's graphite electrode operations are in the process of being housed in a separately listed firm following the group's recent demerger. The existing listed entity, HEG Advanced Materials, retains the advanced materials, battery energy solutions and green power businesses, while HEG Graphite will house the graphite electrode operations and is anticipated to list separately next month.
Graphite India has an annual graphite electrode manufacturing capacity of 80,000 tonnes, making it the country's largest producer.
